Lindsay Fine Art Ltd was formed in 1990 to deal in European Old Master Paintings (15th-19th C.) and that remains its core business to this day. Although we are interested in paintings from all the major schools of Old Master painting, 95% of all paintings offered or shown to Lindsay Fine Art Ltds are rejected on grounds of attribution, condition or price. Each painting that we buy or sell as agent has to satisfy a strict series of criteria which have been fine tuned over the last 17 years.
The art world today is a confusing place. Most of the great works of art are already in museums or private collections, which means that much of the art that comes up for sale is of a lesser quality. Occasionally, however, the opportunity to acquire an important painting at auction or privately will arise. Constant vigilance is therefore required, both at the major auction rooms in London or New York and at smaller sales in America and Europe.
